If you have pets inside the house, then you know that there will sometimes be accidents. Whether your pets urinate on the carpet or they have other accidents, you might think that the stains won’t come out. However, there are a few tips and tricks that you can use to remove the stains so that your carpet maintains its clean look. Another benefit of keeping pet stains out of your carpet is that it will keep bacteria from forming, which can sometimes lead to health issues for family members.
Beat It With Acids
Although it does have a strong odor, ammonia will get stains out of the carpet with only one or two treatments. Mix one cup of ammonia with half a gallon of water. You can use a sponge to blot the stains before vacuuming the carpet. Let the carpet dry before you vacuum. Make sure there are a few windows open in the home to relieve the odor of the ammonia. Vinegar is another product that you can use to lift stains from the carpet. Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda or salt on the stain. Pour about half one tablespoon of vinegar on the spot. You will probably see the vinegar and baking soda fizz. This is helping to lift the stain from the carpet. Rinse the area with warm water. Let the carpet dry before you vacuum.
Shaving Cream Or Gel
If the stain is small, then shaving cream will usually get it out of the carpet. You can either apply the cream directly on the stain or put it on a sponge to blot the stain. Clean the area with a wet cloth. Let the carpet dry for a few minutes before cleaning the rest of the carpet.
Various Powders And Dry Products
Combine a tablespoon of cornstarch with half a cup of milk to make a paste. Rub the paste on the stain. Let the mixture stay on the carpet for about an hour. Use warm water to clean the paste from the carpet. You can also brush the substance away before using a vacuum to get rid of the small spots left behind. If you get to the spot soon after the accident happens, then sprinkle salt on the area. After about 30 minutes, blot with warm water and vacuum as usual. Borax is a strong substance that can get stains out of carpets. Wet the area before sprinkling the borax on the floor. You can mix the borax with vinegar to make it stronger for difficult stains. Another product that you can use is meat tenderizer. Use equal parts tenderizer and water on the stain. Let the mixture sit on the carpet for about 30 minutes. Use a sponge to rinse the carpet before letting it air dry.
Hydrogen peroxide with toothpaste or cream of tartar can remove pet stains. You don’t need to use a lot of the peroxide because it can sometimes take the color out of the carpet if left on the area too long. Gently blot the area after putting the peroxide on it, rinsing with warm water to clean the floor. WD-40, although commonly used on creaky hinges, can remove tough stains. Use any normal carpet cleaner with the WD-40 as well as warm water to clean the carpet. You might need to spray the carpet a few times to completely get rid of the stain. Club soda is a simple product to use to get rid of pet stains. It’s best to try to clean the stain as soon as the accident occurs as you want to blot the excess moisture from the carpet. Pour about a cup of club soda on the stain before blotting dry.
